Holy shit.
(I was watching this happen, and it was even a pretty tidy run except for a couple corners.)
And this thing is still pretty heavy, and is limited by its batteries.

Unbelievable. I wonder how the sector times compare to Loeb’s, and how much of that gain came as it climbed higher , since this thing is immune to power loss from thin air.

I know he beat Loeb’s qualifying time (which is just the first sector, where ICE is at its strongest ) , but the live timing doesn’t have sector times posted for the actual event.

Dumas was faster every sector - the upper sectors were actually less of an advantage for Dumas than the lower sectors, although the commentators mentioned rough surface as an issue there, that wasn’t an issue in 2013.

Actually that’s on par with previous Pikes Peak cars. The Peugeot topped out at 150, the Tacoma 132. Don’t know what Monster Tajima’s SX4 topped out at, but the highest speed it hit at the Climb was 156.
Of course
there’s the question of how the VW (and the others hit that top speed). Is it a “gets there without trouble and runs out of gears/sits on rev limiter” thing, or a “theoretically possible speed with a long enough straight/takes everything the motor has to get there
” thing.
